As we all might have known, one of the best surf spots in the world, the island of Mentawai was swept off by a tsunami on October 25, 2010.

[Update 11/4/10] GNFI local team in Mentawai reported so far 450 died, 66 missing, 499 lightly and heavily injured, and 15,000 refugees.

It’s reported that food supplies is enough for 3 months ahead, however, severe weather and challenging geographical locations (in West Sumatra rain storm in the aftermath of tsunami is almost non-stop) have make it very difficult and dangerous to deliver the supplies to Mentawai.

Few days ago, a ship that boarded 26 crew was struck and flipped over by a storm. So did a ship of National Electricity Company that carried lighting supplies.

Although activities to Mentawai are being delayed, they will resume soon. GNFI local team in Mentawai is working closely with other humanitarian organizations in this aftermath recovery efforts.
